  • Decomposes into formamide and water when heated, primary industrial use.

  • Used to obtain formic acid by reaction with dilute acids.

  • Can serve as a storage form for formic acid.

  • Used in palladium on carbon (Pd/C) reduction of functional groups.

  • Used for reductive amination of aldehydes and ketones (Leuckart reaction).

  • Used as a buffer in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and compatible with LC/MS.

  • AR/GR grade is used as a laboratory reagent.
